Driver ‘critical’ after veering off motorway into tree in horror smash

A DRIVER is in "critical" condition after he careered off a major motorway into a tree in a horror smash. Emergency services[1] raced to the busy road near Dunblane after the alarm was raised last night.

The 39-year-old man was driving[2] a blue Audi[3] A4, which ploughed into a tree after leaving the M9 at the Craigforth Interchange last night He was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University[4] Hospital in Glasgow[5] for treatment, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

The road was closed for around nine hours to allow for cops to probe the scene and for the vehicle to be recovered.

Inspector Andrew Thomson[6] of the Forth Valley Road Policing Unit said: "We are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and would urge anyone with information to get in touch.

"We would be keen to speak to anyone who saw the Audi car on the road before the incident or anyone who may have dashcam[7] footage from the area."
