Driver jailed after causing death of two Dudley brothers
The boys, aged 10 and 23 months, died after the car they were in with their mother was hit by a high-powered Audi on Birmingham New Road, Wolverhampton, in 2019. The driver of the Audi, Mohammed Sullaiman Khan, who admitted two counts of death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving, was this week jailed for 11 years. The 28-year-old was also given a two-year jail sentence, to run consecutively, having admitted perverting the course of justice after a plan was hatched to try a conceal what had happened.
He was also banned from driving for seven years from his release. His brother, Mohammed Asim Khan, aged 36, was given an 18-month jail term, suspended for two years, after he was found guilty of perverting the course of justice. Wolverhampton Crown Court heard Sullaiman Khan had reached speeds of more than 90mph in the 40mph limit, before his Audi hit the BMW. In a victim statement, the heartbroken mother of the two boys, Arathi Nahar, said: “My sons gave me joy and gave me the reason and purpose to get up each day and want to provide them with love and gifts all the time. “Since the boys passed away I can only hold on to the memories and look at photos and their videos to feel their precious times we had together. “Sanjay and Pawanveer had their own strong bond and relationship between them which was magical. “Sanjay would sing songs and nursery rhymes to his younger brother and I would hear the laughter and fun that the boys had between them and both constantly wanted mine and dad’s attention.”
Mrs Nahar, who was seriously injured in the crash, added: “My house, my life and I died on 14 March, 2019.”
