Road cops were made aware of a car coming off the motorway near Coatbridge in the early hours of December 31.

An image shared by the force shows the vehicle strewn along the side of the road after appearing to have crashed through the barriers.

Officers claim they caught a driver under the influence.

They said a male has been arrested and reported to the procurator fiscal.
