The scene on the M62 overnight (Image: National Highways) A SECTION of the M62 was closed for nearly nine hours after a serious collision last night – leaving drivers trapped in their vehicles as traffic ground to a halt. The eastbound section of the motorway was shut at around 9.30pm after the crash between junction 22, for Ripponden, and junction 24, near Huddersfield.
A National Highways spokesperson said at the time: “West Yorkshire[1] police are in attendance currently leading a multi-agency response to the incident. “National Highways resources are assisting with traffic management. “Police collision investigation works will be ongoing into the night and the closure is expected to be in place for some time.”
Shortly before 11.30pm, National Highways said vehicles trapped within the closure had started to be turned around from the back of the queue. Vehicles were directed on to the westbound carriageway via the snow gates. This process was completed by around 4.15am.
