Durham Police catch 29-year-old at double the alcohol limit
The 29-year-old decided to drive home after a night out in Durham last weekend and crashed on the A1(M). At a roadside breath test he got 54, the legal limit is 35. Later that evening in custody he blew a 69.
His car is written off and he is set to appear in court later this week. Durham Police are highlighting the incident as part of their drink and drug campaign. A spokesperson said: “3 or 4 pints won’t hurt?
“This 29-year-old took that risk after a night out at the weekend. “He left his mates in Durham, jumped in his car and crashed it on the A1(M). “He blew 54 on the roadside breath test.
In custody, he gave an evidential breath sample of 69. “The legal limit is 35. “His car is written off, he’ll lose his licence, and he’ll be appearing at court in due course.
“But frankly, we’d consider him lucky. Start listening. “If you’ve got a mate who thinks they ‘know their own limit’, show them this.”
The campaign hopes to show people footage from drunk drivers insisting that they feel alright. On Durham Police Facebook page you can find a series of videos highlighting the problem. The spokesperson added: “It’s week three of our drink and drug drive campaign, and we’re releasing further bodycam footage of drivers found behind the wheel and under the influence of alcohol.
