EFL pundit speaks out on Hull City’s impressive rise amid Liam Rosenior point

Supporters are turning out in their numbers to cheers on Liam Rosenior’s exciting Hull City side. More than 20,000 flocked to the MKM Stadium on Saturday to see the Tigers put Cardiff City to the sword. Strike either side of half-time from Aaron Connolly, Scott Twine[1] and Ozan Tufan ensured City sealed back-to-back Championship wins.

The routine victory moved Rosenior’s team back into the play-offs. Speaking on the What the EFL?! podcas[2]t, pundit Adrian Clarke said: “They [Hull] outclassed Cardiff in every department. It was about the energy in the press.

When they didn’t have the ball, Cardiff were absolutely smothered by the hard work of the front guys. “Tufan, Twine and [LIam] Delap squeezed the life out of them and then, in possession, they showed their quality. They have got a lot of quality.

“I think that midfield of two Jean Michael Seri and Tyler Morton is looking really good at the minute. It was a brilliant ball from Morton for Tufan’s goal. It was a little bit Gerrard-esque.”

Former Arsenal man Clarke is convinced the Tigers are heading in the right direction. He is excited by their talented crop of young players, name-checking Jaden Philogene, Morton, Twine and Delap. In a little over a year in charge, Rosenior has turned City into genuine promotion candidates.

He has built on defensive foundations laid last term and implemented a progressive style of play. Little wonder City’s hierarchy have rewarded Rosenior[4] with a new contract, tying him to the club until 2026. “He has earned that,” admitted Clarke. “He has proved himself to be a very good tactical manager. “The only two teams (in the Championship) who pass the ball better or hog the ball more than Hull City are Leicester and Southampton.

They are the next closest by far in terms of knocking the ball around and being patient with their build-up.

“There’s good interchanging of positions.

I really like what they are doing.”
