End of an era as Staffordshire pub set to become flats
A vacant pub could be converted into apartments. Plans have been submitted to East Staffordshire Borough Council to turn The Alfred, in Derby Street, in Burton, into seven apartments. A design and access statement submitted as part of the application states: "The site has had limited to no occupancy due to the current climate.
The ground floor has been unoccupied for more then six months and the public house has had no interest from the general public. "The ground floor will consist of two one-bedroom apartments at the front of the site. A third apartment will consist of two bedrooms, a door will be replaced to a window.
At the rear, an existing storeroom will be converted to a one-bedroom apartment from an external entrance and the first floor to cater for three one-bedroom apartments within its curtilage. "At the rear of the site will be a bin store and sheltered bike store which will cater for 10 bikes. To the rear of the site is open space; the client wishes to keep this vacant for future plans for the site, if need be the client can issue certain parking spots."
