‘Fairly new for us’: Two Enid men steal ATM but fail to get any cash, police say

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KOKH) -- Two Enid men were arrested after stealing an ATM and leading police on a pursuit in a stolen car on Thursday morning. That pursuit ended with the two crashing along the side of the toad and being put behind bars at the Garfield County Jail.

50-year-old Jason Kidd and 39-year-old Cody Jolley face a laundry list of charges--including second-degree burglary and eluding--on top of extensive criminal histories. Investigators say they took the ATM from the Heritage Hills Shopping Center and were taken into custody near W Oklahoma Ave and S Cleveland Ave.

Cass Rains, public relations coordinator for the Enid Police Department, shared, "I think this is fairly new for us... I don't, I mean I've been here three years and I don't recall anything like that." According to Rains, a man jogging down W Willow Rd saw the two taking the ATM and called 911 to report them at approximately 6:23 a.m.

Police say the men used a chain to rip the ATM from the wall. They then led police on a chase reaching speeds of up to 90 mph. The car they crashed was reported stolen on Wednesday.

"By the time our officers caught up to them... it was still dragging behind their vehicle... and that's when the pursuit began," explained Rains. Kidd and Jolley tried to run away on foot. Police records show an officer tasered Kidd to get him into custody.

While guns and narcotics including--marijuana and methamphetamines--were found with them, it remains unknown if they were under the influence at the time of the incident. According to the Enid Police Department, the suspects were unsuccessful in getting any cash--they just made away with the machine itself. Kidd already had warrants out for his arrest from another county, according to police records.

Police will complete an affidavit and bring the charges to the Garfield County District Attorney's Office.

The investigation is ongoing.
