Fight, panic follow “International Night” in Westerville; 3 arrested

A celebration of culture in Westerville Friday night ended in a fight, a panic and a car crash as people fled Westerville North High School. Three non-students were arrested. In an email to parents from Principal Kurt Yancey, the school's International Club hosted an International Night "to celebrate and showcase the many cultures of our community." The event held in the school's auditorium included dance, poetry, speeches and other forms of artistic expression.

"Unfortunately, after the event concluded, two altercations involving several individuals occurred outside of the school. District officials and law enforcement arrived on scene to support our school administrators who were managing the issue. Please know that these incidents did not involve anyone affiliated with Westerville North or Westerville City Schools," according to Yancey.

No weapons were involved. According to Westerville police scanners, Columbus and Westerville police were dispatched to the hit-and-run crash near Cleveland Avenue and Schrock Road about 9:20 p.m. A white Toyota Camry was reportedly fleeing north on Cleveland.

No weapons were involved. School officials credited a quick police response. Three people were charged, according to Yancey.

Their names and charges were not released.
