First picture of pedestrian killed in Staffordshire bus crash as family pay tribute

Devastated relatives have led tributes after their loved-one was knocked down and killed in a bus crash. Staffordshire Police[1] are continuing to investigate the collision which killed Roy Corfield, from Stafford[2]. The 88-year-old was on Bridge Street, in Stafford, when he was struck by the bus. The tragedy happened at 11.35am on Wednesday, December 6.

In a tribute, Roy’s family said: “We are shocked and saddened at the sudden tragic death of a loving husband, dad and grandad. He always had a smile for everyone and loved helping others. Words cannot express how much he meant to us.

He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends, but will always be in our hearts.” Police are still attempting to piece together how the collision occurred. PC Gavin Knott, from the Staffordshire and West Midlands serious collision investigation unit, which is investigating the collision, said: “The town centre was busy that morning and there were people waiting at the bus stop.

I am particularly keen to speak with anyone who saw Mr Corfield beforehand or witnessed the incident itself.”

Any witnesses should call the police on 101, quoting incident number 293 of December 6.
