Five boys ‘with weapons’ arrested as police descend on Metrolink tram stop after serious attack

Five boys were arrested at a Metrolink stop last night after reports of a knife-point robbery. Officers responded to reports of the robbery at the Cornbrook tram stop on Thursday evening (December 21). There was an ‘increased police presence’ on the platform.

Police carried out a search and CCTV checks. Five suspects were identified and a short time later, five boys were arrested at the Firswood Metrolink[1] stop.

Police said ‘suspected stolen property and offensive weapons’ were found on them.

All five were arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon and taken into custody. In a post on the GMP Trafford[4] South Facebook page early this morning, an officer wrote: “You may have seen an increased Police Presence at Cornbrook Metrolink Station earlier tonight as Officers from #GMPTransportUnit responded to reports of a knife-point robbery. Our Officers conducted an extensive area search along with real time CCTV enquiries resulting in five suspects being identified.

“A short time later five juvenile males were arrested at Firswood Metrolink Station on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon with suspected stolen property and offensive weapons amongst items seized. They have all been taken to custody awaiting interview. “Our team work night and day across Greater Manchester’s Transport System targeting anyone involved in criminality and working hard to keep you safe. #GMTravelSafe.”
