Five seriously hurt after Mercedes crashes into wall on Christmas Day

Five people were left seriously injured after a Mercedes crashed into a wall on Christmas[1] Day. The smash happened on Common Edge Road in Blackpool at around 10.27pm last night (December 25). Lancashire Police said officers were called to reports of a Mercedes CLA 220 leaving the carriageway and ‘colliding with a wall’.

The car was travelling from St Anne’s, police added. Three boys – aged 13, 15 and 17 – suffered ‘multiple serious injuries’. A 17-year-old girl and a woman aged in her 30s were also seriously hurt.

They were all rushed to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this stage. A 42-year-old man, from St Anne’s, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving with excess alcohol and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

He remains in custody to be quizzed by detectives. Police are urging any witnesses to come forward. Sgt Paul McCurrie, from our Road Policing Unit, said: “This collision has left a number of people with some very serious injuries.

“Thankfully, those injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening at this time. Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what led to the collision are ongoing. “I would ask any witnesses or anybody with any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage which would help our investigation to contact the police as soon as possible.

Email us at [email protected][4] or call 101 quoting log 987 of 25th December 2023.”
