Ford Fiesta destroyed in Cotswolds car blaze which closed A429

A car has been destroyed after a fire which led to a major road closure in Gloucestershire. The incident unfolded on the Northleach Roundabout on the A429 in the Cotswolds[1] just before 5.15pm yesterday (December 18). Emergency service crews dashed out to the scene and found a Ford[2] Fiesta alight. Gloucestershire Police[3] said a road closure was set up[4] while the flames were tackled.

Following the incident, Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service[5] said three crews from Northleach, Stow and Moreton were able to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters added no-one was injured during the incident, but the car was destroyed.

A Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson says: “We were called at 5.13pm to reports of a car fire on the A429.

Three fire engines were sent to the scene, from Northleach, Stow and Moreton. “Crews used two hose reels and two sets of breathing apparatus to put out the fire, which involved a Ford Fiesta. There were no injuries and the car was 100 per cent damaged by the fire.

The stop time was 6.04pm.” A statement posted on the Cotswolds Police X – formerly known as Twitter[8] – account added: “Emergency services were called to a report of a car fire on the Northleach Roundabout at around 5.15pm. The fire is now out and nobody is believed to be injured.

However, traffic has built up in the area and motorists are advised to be aware of possible delays.”
