Four taken to hospital after serious crash in the Borders

Four people have been taken to hospital after a serious crash in the Borders. The incident happened on the A698 in Denholm around 3.10pm on Friday December 22 and involved a Mitsubishi Eclipse car and three pedestrians. The vehicle left the road and struck the three pedestrians who were walking on a pavement by the road.

The 60-year-old male driver of the car was taken to Borders General Hospital for treatment following the incident. A 75-year-old female pedestrian was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for serious injuries. The other two women, aged 71 and 68, were taken to Borders General Hospital for treatment for non-serious injuries.

The road was closed until around 11.30pm to allow for an investigation at the scene. Sergeant Grant Hastie, of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances which led to this collision and would urge anyone with information to get in touch. “We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area are around the time of the collision.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting reference 2094 of 22 December, 2023.”
