The scene of the crash on Beechcroft Road (Image: Sarah Small) One person has been hospitalised and a lamppost was damaged after two cars were involved in a crash on a busy Swindon[1] road. Officers from Wiltshire Police attended the incident just before 5pm on Wednesday, on Beechcroft Road in Upper Stratton.

An eyewitness who was at the scene believes that an 82-year-old woman drove into a 19-year-old man’s car before driving on and hitting a lamppost, although this has not been confirmed. “I brought the lad into my mother’s house afterwards, so he wasn’t out in the cold and knew that the shock would have set in shortly afterwards,” said the witness. Police officers have now confirmed that they attended the crash between two vehicles.

“We responded to the road traffic collision at about 4.45pm,” a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said. “Two vehicles were involved, a lamppost was damaged and one person was taken to hospital as a precaution. “No arrests were made,” they confirmed.

The crash partially blocked the road between Cricklade Road and St Philip’s Road, causing issues for rush hour traffic in the area.

The casualty has since been released from hospital.
