Full IOPC statement on fatal Huntingdon Street crash after police chase

The police watchdog has issued a statement after a man was fatally hit by a vehicle which was being chased by Nottinghamshire Police. The collision happened on A60 Huntingdon Street, Nottingham city centre,[1] shortly after 3am on Wednesday, December 13. The pedestrian was treated by paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident. Nottinghamshire Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police[2] Conduct, which investigates deaths following police contact. An IOPC spokesperson said: “The Independent Office for Police Conduct has started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a collision in Nottingham[3] city centre[4].

“The pedestrian was treated by paramedics but has sadly died. After we were notified by the force, we sent our investigators to the police post-incident process and scene to begin gathering information.

“Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic incident”. The road has been closed in both directions since the crash, with diversions in place.

Road closures in the area are expected to remain in place for some time while inquiries continue into the incident.
