Fundraiser for kids of tragic NHS nurse who died in Edinburgh M8 horror crash

A fundraiser has been set up in memory of an NHS nurse who tragically died after a road crash in Edinburgh. Mum-of-two Eve Brown, 41, was pronounced dead after the horror collision[1] which took place on Monday, December 18, at Hermiston Gate – just one week before Christmas. The crash took place at around 9.10am with Eve reportedly being pregnant at the time of the incident.

Her family[2] have now organised a fundraiser in her memory with GBP2000 raised by Friday, December 29. The fundraiser was set up by Eve’s sister, Chioma with the family initially hoping to raise GBP1,000.

Since then, 133 people have shown their support and donated money in memory of Eve.

Emergency services raced to the scene on the M8 following reports of a Kia Sorento having collided with an HGV – the mum was then pronounced dead at the scene. Posting the fundraiser on JustGiving, Chioma wrote: “Hi everyone this is Eve. Eve was a nurse within the NHS and had moved to Bellshill with her young family nearly 2 years ago.

Unfortunately Eve, aged 41 was involved in a fatal road traffic accident on Monday 18th December that sadly took her life. “Eve is survived by her two young girls ages 3 & 4. We are desperately wanting to help this family as they come to terms with the devastating and tragic loss of their mum, sister and daughter.

“I have personally spoken with Eve’s sister this evening as they are neighbours of ours who has said this is OK to post. The family would be more than grateful and appreciative of any help in the form of toys, clothes, food or any donations at all especially with Christmas in a couple of days. “I know times are tough, especially more so at this time of year but if anyone can help it will all be appreciated.

Thank you. Rest in Eternal Peace Eve.” Speaking in regard to the incident, Road Policing Officers are appealing for information regarding the incident.

Road Policing Sergeant Jill Kirkpatrick said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died. Join Edinburgh Live’s Whatsapp Community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages.[5] “Enquiries into the circumstances of this collision are ongoing, and I would ask anyone who was on the motorway at the time and may have seen the crash, to please contact us.

“I would also appeal to anyone with dash-cams or recording equipment to check their footage for anything that could assist us.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0761 of December 18, 2023.”
