Funeral arrangements set for Waltham police officer who was killed at work site

WALTHAM -- Funeral arrangements are in place for Waltham police officer Paul Tracey, who was killed last week while working a construction detail on Totten Pond Road. According to the Brasco & Son Memorial Funeral Home[1], a wake will be held from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church[2], 920 Trapelo Road, Waltham.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, also at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church. Tracey, 58, along with a National Grid worker were struck late Wednesday afternoon at a work site by a Ford pickup that authorities say was driven by Peter Simon, 54, of Woodsville, New Hampshire.

Suspect arraigned: No bail for man charged with fatally striking Waltham police officer with pickup[3] Tracey was a 28-year veteran of the Waltham Police Department. He married to Officer Kristin Tracey, who is the school resource officer at Waltham High School[4].

The couple had two children. A candlelight vigil was held Saturday evening in Cambridge in honor of Roderick Jackson, 36, the National Grid worker who was also fatally struck. Simon is charged with two counts of manslaughter; failing to stop for police; driving to endanger; larceny of a vehicle; armed robbery; assault with a dangerous weapon; leaving the scene of an accident causing injury or death; leaving the scene of an accident causing personal damage; and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.

He was also cited for several traffic violations.

Simon has been held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Thursday.
