Further arrest after people in Weymouth threatened with knives

A further arrest has been made after people in a seaside town were threatened by a group carrying knives. The group walked through Weymouth in the early hours of Sunday morning, provoking fights and assaulting members of the public[1], police said. The driver of a Citroen in Park Street car park was reportedly threatened and two women suffered minor injuries.

Dorset Police has arrested a second Weymouth man in connection with the incident. The 20-year-old was held on suspicion of threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray. Police previously arrested another 20-year-old local man on Sunday, on suspicion of affray.

Both men have been released on bail and detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses. Officers would like to identify the driver of the Citroen who was reportedly threatened at about 03:10 GMT. They are also keen to speak to an elderly man who was approached in the area and a Good Samaritan who tried to intervene.
