Gang in tracksuits demand phone and pull knife in Gloucester

A gang of would-be thieves attempted to rob a man at knifepoint in Gloucester city centre[1] earlier this week, sparking a police appeal. Gloucestershire Constabulary are asking witnesses to come forward after being called to Cromwell Street at around 12.30am on Wednesday, December 20. It was reported that a man was walking to an address in the area when he was approached by three unknown males, who asked him to hand over his phone.

When the man refused to give them his phone and tried to push past them, one member of the group pulled out a dark-handled knife[2] and threatened him with it. The group were described as wearing grey and black tracksuits and all ran off in different directions following the incident. Enquiries are ongoing to identify those involved and officers are asking anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened but has not yet spoken to police to make contact.

Officers are also asking members of the public to be vigilant in the area and report any suspicious activity. They are also keen to hear from anyone who has mobile phone, CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident. Information can be provided to police online by completing a form here[5] and quoting incident 17 of December 20.

Alternatively, you can report information anonymously through the independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or visiting their website[6].
