Heavily pregnant Scottish nurse killed in Edinburgh crash days before Christmas

Tributes have been paid to a heavily pregnant nurse[1] that tragically lost her life in a horror lorry crash just days before Christmas in Edinburgh. Mum[2] Eve Brown lost her life when her Kia Sorento was involved in a crash with a Tesco HGV lorry on the M8 close to Hermiston Gait on Monday December 18. Capital officers raced to the scene but the 41-year-old was pronounced dead, the Daily Record reports.[3]

NHS worker Eve had been pictured celebrating her pregnancy at a baby shower with friends and family just two days before the tragedy. In a series of photographs from the party, she could be seen smiling in a sequin blue dress and posing with her baby bump. Heartfelt tributes have since been paid by devastated friends who told of their shock.

Udoka Chinwe said: “How do we say farewell? How do we say rest in peace? “Your friends and family celebrated your baby shower, only for you to be snatched away from us.

Can we get one more hug? One more dance? “You only ever had nice things to say.

I love you.” Somto Christabel Emy-Amaugo said: “She wasn’t just a woman, she was a woman with a large heart. “My heart hurts.

How do you throw your big, baby-shower party on the 16th and exit on the 18th? “I will miss your wonderful, opera-singing voice, your praise sessions, your hearty laughter, your larger-than-life attitude and your most beautiful smile. “Thank you for being so kind to us in the short time you passed through our lives.

I will remember you Lady Eve.” Emma Reynolds wrote: “Rest in peace Eve. Sending my love & healing to your daughters.”

The local community has rallied around Eve’s family to offer them support in the run up to Christmas.

Charity Dashing Hounds Bellshill is organising collections for the donation of presents and clothes[7] for Eve’s two young children. They said: “Eve is survived by her two young girls aged three and four. We desperately want to help this family as they come to terms with the devastating and tragic loss of their mum, sister and daughter.

“The family would be more than grateful and appreciative of any help in the form of toys, clothes, food or any donations at all especially with Christmas in a couple of days. “I know times are tough, more so at this time of year, but if anyone can help please private message me and I will get back to you to arrange collections or drop offs.” The road where Eve was killed was closed for over nine hours as a full accident investigation took place.

Officers from Police Scotland are now appealing for anyone with dashcam footage from the area to get in touch. Road Policing Sergeant Jill Kirkpatrick said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died. “Enquiries into the circumstances of this collision are ongoing, and I would ask anyone who was on the motorway at the time and may have seen the crash, to please contact us.
