Highway 17 partially reopened after crash in Nairn Centre

Highway 17 has partially reopened after being closed for over an hour Sunday due to a collision in Nairn Centre, west of Sudbury. Few details are know at this time about the crash at this time. On ‘X,’ formerly Twitter[1], the Ministry of Transportation[2]‘s (MTO) 511 Traveller Information Service[3] indicated the collision at 12:15 p.m.

The highway was closed at Smith Street. “Highway 17 is closed at Smith Street in Nairn Centre due to a motor vehicle collision,” said police, in a tweet[4] just after 12:30 p.m. “OPP (Ontario Provincial Police[5]) on scene.”

The MTO 511 Map[6] indicates the roadway partially reopened at about 1:40 p.m. with the left lane closed the roadway is reduced to one lane. “Collision on Highway 17 westbound at Smith Street South – Highway 7082 North, Nairn. Lane and west shoulder closed,” reads the traveller information service’s site.

Police have not released any details on the cause of the crash, the number of vehicles involved or if there were any injuries.
