Hockley man taken to hospital with injuries after crash
The man suffered cuts to his head as well as leg injuries after being hit by the car as he used the zebra crossing on Southend[1] Road, near The Spa Pub on Monday. The incident took place at roughly 7.45am in the morning and police are now urgently appealing for witnesses to come forward as they investigate the crash. Police have confirmed the car stopped at the scene and that no arrests have been made at this stage.
Adrian Eves, Rochford District Residents councillor responsible for the Hockley ward, said: “It is sad to hear this. “But the community spirit is really good in Hockley so I fully expect if there were any witnesses they will come forward, and I would be very grateful if they do. “Hockley generally speaking is a very safe place to live and I would like it to stay that way.
“These things do happen unfortunately, and I am sure the investigation that will go with it will uncover the reasons why this happened. “In the meantime, it would be very helpful to police if we have full cooperation with everyone giving us a good hand with getting the information to them to be able to investigate it further. “I hope the man recovers, it couldn’t be a worse time just before Christmas.”
Officers have urged witnesses to come forward to help with the investigation. A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We were called to reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in Southend Road, Hockley, shortly after 7.45am on Monday, 11 December. “The pedestrian, a man, suffered injuries which are not life-threatening or life changing.
“Our enquiries into this collision are continuing. “We need witnesses, anyone with information or relevant footage, to come forward. “Please quote incident 225 of December 11.”
