Horrific video shows the aftermath of The Chicks founder Laura Lynch’s fatal car crash
A shocking video has been released showing the wreckage of cars from the fatal crash which killed Laura Lynch[1]. The Chicks' founding member[2] died after being involved in a head-on collision[3] last week outside of El Paso in Texas. Laura's cousin Mick Lynch[4] revealed she died while making the hour-and-a-half drive from El Paso to Dell City.
Laura had been heading east on Highway 62 when a car heading west tried to pass another vehicle in front of it on a two-way undivided portion of the highway. In a new video shared on TikTok[5], the remains of Laura's Ford F-150 can be seen on the side of the road. Over the top of the video, it said: "Laura Lynch's car last night #DixieChicks." The TikTok user who shared the clip then posted another video to explain what had happened. The social media poster said smoke was seen coming out of Laura's car, causing a driver who had stopped behind the crash to cut singer's seatbelt and remove her from the vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while Laura was declared dead at the scene.
Police are now investigating the fatal incident. The Chicks reacted to the news of Laura's death with a tribute on social media. They wrote: "We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Laura Lynch, a founding member of The Chicks.
We hold a special place in our hearts for the time we spent playing music, laughing and traveling together.
Laura Lynch was killed in a car crash (youtube/@john sosman)"Laura was a bright light...her infectious energy and humor gave a spark to the early days of our band. Laura had a gift for design, a love of all things Texas and was instrumental in the early success of the band. Her undeniable talents helped propel us beyond busking on street corners to stages all across Texas and the mid-West."
Laura was a founding member of the band in 1989 alongside Martie Maguire, Emily Strayer, and Robin Lynn Macy. She left The Chicks in 1995 with mixed reports as to what happened behind the scenes. In the end, Laura insisted she didn't regret leaving the band.
The Chicks reached breakthrough commercial success after Laura's departure with support from music industry executives. After leaving an undeniable impact on country and folk music, they went on hiatus. Alongside a comeback, they dropped the word "Dixie" from their original name of "The Dixie Chicks" as a result of the racist implications of the word.
Often, the word referred to states associated with the Confederacy.
