Ms Mavin added: ‘I keep looking into his room expecting to see him there, I thought I heard him cough, his little brother asked if that was his voice he heard.
‘I’ve never known pain like this… the last time I heard from him was 13.55pm that day.
‘I feel so guilty… I wish it was me but instead I lay next to my boy while his heart took its last beat.’
Police were called to the A192 Hartford Bank in Cramlington at around 9.30pm on Friday, where it had been reported that Suzuki Vitara, a Range Rover Evoque and a Ford Focus had collided in a tragic incident just days before Christmas[5].
The teenagers who died, and the two of those who have suffered serious injuries – both men aged 41 and 17 – were travelling in the Suzuki.
A woman, 36, in the Range Rover was also seriously injured, while the 52-year-old female driver of the Ford Focus was uninjured.
The families of the teenagers, both from Blyth, are being supported by specialist family liaison officers at this devastating time, said police.
Sergeant Russell Surrey, of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department, said: ‘This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are firmly with the family and loved ones of the two young people who have sadly lost their lives and those who have suffered injuries in this collision.

‘We will offer them all of the support they need and ask that their privacy is respected at this time.’
‘Officers are now asking any witnesses to the incident to come forward.’
Mr Surrey added: ‘We are asking that anyone who may have seen the moments leading up to the collision or have information regarding the three vehicles involved being driven in the area to contact us immediately.
‘Anyone who has dashcam footage of the area around the time of the incident should also get in touch.
‘Your information, no matter how small you feel it may be, could help us to ascertain exactly what happened.’
