Irton drink-driver failed to stop after tree split in half in accident

James Harrison, 21, was had been driving a Seat Ibiza at Mount Pleasant in Irton on July 13 when the accident occurred and he failed to stop. A breath test showed Harrison had 65mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit to drive is 35mcg.

Harrison, of Mountain View, Irton, Holmrook, pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle with alcohol level above the limit and failing to stop after a road accident. Magistrates sitting in Workington[1] imposed an 18-month driving ban, to be reduced by 18 weeks, if the defendant completes the drink-drivers’ rehabilitation course. Harrison was fined GBP530.

He was ordered to pay GBP85 costs and a GBP214 victim surcharge.
