Island Roads Issues Ventnor Emergency Works Update
Island Roads has provided an update following Southern Water’s emergency works at the Graben in Ventnor. The statement regarding the Newport Road location says: “We have been informed by Southern Water’s contractors that the repairs have been completed, the highway is being re-instated today and that the road should be re-opened by 5pm this evening.”
Leeson Road remains closed – a hard closure at Shanklin end of Leeson Road has been proposed by Island Roads and will be implemented this evening (15 December). This will mean no one can access Leeson Road from the Shanklin end; any residents who do need to access their properties will need to do so from the Bonchurch side. The road closure at Bonchurch Shute will be moved higher up to Leeson Road to enable access to Lower Leeson Road premises.
The hard closure will be in place at the high side of car park, just above the Smugglers Haven Tea Gardens. Whilst the intention will be to reopen the road when it is safe to do so, the closure will need to remain in place whilst monitoring and further technical work is undertaken to enable an informed decision on when the road can be reopened. Monitoring arrangements are being put in place now, and the further technical work is being commissioned and is expected to start in January.
We will continue to work closely with Island Roads and other partners to monitor the situation for any further changes.
We want to keep disruption to a minimum and make sure road closures are removed as soon as it is safe to do so.
