Kentucky State Police Got a New Mustang GT
S650 Mustang GT Enters Police Service In KentuckyJason Adkison on X Speeders and street racers in Kentucky have a new pony car to contend with in the law enforcement stable. The Kentucky State Police has gotten its hands on at least one example of the all-new 2024 Ford Mustang GT, and it looks ready for high-speed pursuit duty.
Images of the new police vehicle were recently shared to the site formerly known as Twitter by Kentucky state trooper and USMC veteran Jason Adkison. It looks pretty damn mean liveried up. The Mustang is no stranger to law enforcement, with the Blue Oval previously offering the Special Service Package (SSP) on the Fox Body from 1982 through 1993.
Some 15,000 of these modified and strengthened Mustangs were sold to over 60 law enforcement and government agencies, including the Kentucky State Police. The performance on offer from this current S650 Mustang GT[1] is far beyond anything Ford could’ve imagined back in 1993, even if this particular pursuit vehicle isn’t a factory-kitted police car like its ancestor. Under the hood sits the Gen IV variant of the 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 engine, providing 480 hp and 415 lb-ft.
If you go for the performance exhaust setup, those figures rise to 486 hp and 418 lb-ft. While we can’t tell what gearbox is bolted up to the back of the V-8, chances are it’s an automatic. The gray paintwork with a simple blue stripe matches the livery of the Kentucky State Police’s Chevy Tahoe[2] and Dodge Charger[3] units, and looks rather sharp in its simplicity.
That said, the large state police lettering and hidden lights out back will ensure traffic crawls behind this pony car. Looking through the Kentucky State Police social media accounts, it’s clear that the department also has a Chevrolet Camaro cruiser in the fleet. While it probably isn’t wise for the police to promote any sort of street racing, it would make for a great video to see these two hometown rivals square up on a closed course.
