Traffic on the expressway has almost doubled over the past year, leading to an increase in accidents. Most accidents involve heavy commercial vehicles and speeding private vehicles. The expressway lacks designated rest areas and by-lanes for parking, and illegal eateries have cropped up.
The authorities have been requested to install safety measures such as rumble strips, streetlights, speed-detection cameras, and reflectors. Despite the delay in building resting spots, plans for them are still underway. Locals in Nuh steal crash barriers and cat-eyes, and truck drivers often ignore warnings and park on the roadside.
Bikes are not allowed on the expressway. A recent crash near Khor village resulted in multiple fatalities. The Gurgaon stretch of the expressway spans 25km from Manesar to Farrukhnagar.[2]Truck crushes jaywalking 10-yr-old; car driver stops to check, leads to pileup on Delhi-Meerut ExpresswayA 10-year-old boy jaywalking near Sikroda in Ghaziabad was crushed to death by a truck on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.
