LIVE: M60 traffic STOPPED after lorry overturns in Storm Pia
All traffic was stopped on a stretch of the M60 this morning after a lorry overturned in strong wind. According to North West Motorway Police, the M60 at Barton Bridge was closed both ways due to the incident in place between junction 10 and junction 11. The anticlockwise carriageway has reopened but the clockwise carriageway remains shut with huge queues.
The ‘large sided vehicle has blown over in high winds’ as Storm Pia batters the region. GMP say no injuries have been reported but congestion is building up to the closure.
Drivers have been urged to avoid the area.
People ‘should not travel unless essential’, police said. A tweet posted by North West Motorway Police earlier said: “M60 #BartonBridge is currently being closed in both directions between J10 & J11due to high winds that have blown large sided vehicle over. Please avoid this area and do not travel unless essential @gmpolice.”
GMP later added: “Police are currently responding to an ongoing incident on junction 10 of the M60 motorway, near Barton Bridge. A lorry has overturned, and no injuries have been reported. “NWAS and GMFRS are also in attendance to assist with vehicle recovery.
Barton Bridge has been closed clockwise between the Trafford Centre at Junction 10 and Eccles Junction 11. “Road closures are likely to cause disruption to motorists this morning. The anticlockwise flow has reduced significantly and will cause delays to the Trafford Centre.
Alternative routes are advised.” Follow our live blog below for the latest traffic updates. Try MEN Premium for FREE by clicking here[3] for no ads, fun puzzles and brilliant new features.
