Live – Man arrested after car smashes into Mutley Plain barriers

Police are appealing for witnesses after a single vehicle road traffic collision which saw several metal barriers separating traffic along Mutley Plain ripped out. A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed officers were called to the scene at 9.36pm tonight on Mutley Plain. The police have said one person – understood to be a male – has been arrested but the spokesperson has not confirmed on what basis the arrest has been made.

Highways staff and a recovery vehicle have been requested to clear away the debris on the roads and remove the vehicle. The dark blue car had slammed into the metal barriers, shredding several of them and sending debris flying across all four lanes, close to the Co-operative store. Paramedics from South Western Ambulance Service Trust were also asked to attend as a precaution.

Police have said they are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage of the crash.
