Flood alerts near Bristol
Alert – River Chew Area: River Chew from Chew Stoke to Keynsham, Chew Stoke Stream and Winford Brook. The Environmental Agency says: “River levels are rising in response to the rain today 28th December 2023 on the River Chew, Winford Brook, Chew Stoke Stream.
“Areas most at risk include the fords on Mill Lane and Pilgrims Way in Chew Stoke and The Batch and Dumpers Lane in Chew Magna. “Further rainfall is forecast overnight tonight into Friday with further rain expected over the weekend. We are monitoring rainfall and river levels.
Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.” Alert – Mid Bristol Avon area Area: Mid River Avon and tributaries including Melksham and Bradford on Avon.
The EA said: “River levels are steady on the Bristol Avon and Semington Brook. Areas most at risk include low lying land and roads between Melksham and Bathford. The flood gates at Holt Road may be closed.
“Due to the rainfall on Wednesday and the further rainfall forecast over the next 2 days, rivers will rise again. We are monitoring rainfall and river levels and are checking rivers for blockages in the area. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.”
Alert – Upper Bristol Avon area Area: Upper River Avon and tributaries including Malmesbury and Chippenham. The EA warns: “River levels are rising on the Bristol Avon, Tetbury Avon, Sherston Avon, Dauntsey Brook due to rainfall.
“Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the Bristol Avon, Tetbury Avon, Sherston Avon, Dauntsey Brook, with low lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around the road at Reybridge. Flooding is possible from on 28/12/2023. We are monitoring rainfall and river levels and are checking rivers for blockages in the area and we will continue to monitor levels closely.
“Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.”
