Live: Roads under water as flood warnings across Staffordshire

Heavy rain has triggered flood warnings and alerts across Staffordshire – with roads left under water. It comes as the weekend’s snow melted to a backdrop of hours of rain yesterday. A number of roads in and around the county had fallen victim to the weather yesterday and were shut.

Today and Crosshill Bank, in Coton, remains closed; the A513 in Alrewas between Barley Green Lane and the turn-off for Croxall is shu,; while the A4091 in Drayton Bassett is ‘partially blocked’ due to flooding in the area. Just over the border and in Ashbourne neighbourhood officers shared a photograph of Wyaston Road beneath the A52 which was closed yesterday after being left totally submerged. Such has been the conditions across the UK following the weekend wintry blast that yellow alerts for rain were issued for parts of the South and North East.

Today there are 69 flood warnings across the country while there are 183 alerts with the updates denoting where flooding is ‘expected’ and ‘possible’ respectively. In Staffordshire and there are warnings for the River Blithe from Blithfield Reservoir to Bancroft and alerts at the River Churnet and Tean in the Moorlands and also for the Rivers Sow, Penk, Rugeley Trent, Blithe and Swarbourn.
