‘Long delays’ on M6 following crash and breakdown on motorway

There are warnings of “long delays” on the M6 following a crash and a vehicle breakdown on the motorway. Emergency services were called to the M6 southbound at the Thelwall Viaduct between junction 21A (Croft Interchange) and junction 21 (Woolston) on Thursday, December 14, following reports of a crash. Once emergency services arrived at the scene they closed two out of three lanes of traffic as they attended the incident.

The lane closures are causing “long delays” according to traffic monitoring service, INRIX. An update reads: “Long delays and two lanes closed due to accident on M6 Thelwall Viaduct Southbound from J21A M62 J10 (Croft Interchange) to J21 A57 Manchester Road (Woolston).”

A vehicle has also broken down on the same stretch of motorway, which is adding to congestion.

Motorway cameras show traffic is queuing southbound around junction 21 as people try to join and leave the motorway. It’s not known how long lane closures will be in place for. We’ll be bringing you the very latest updates, pictures and video on this breaking news story.
