M1 reopens between junction 31 and junction 32 after multi-vehicle crash caused queues and delays

A collision on the M1 on Saturday morning led to the northbound carriageway being closed between Junction 31 for Worksop and 32 near Sheffield. Pictures from official motorway cameras showed ambulance and police crews in the lanes, attending to a “multi-vehicle collision”. National Highways said that at points, there were delays of 60 minutes on approach.[1] Traffic was being diverted off at Junction 31 to avoid the queues.

Other Junction 31 cameras showed traffic at a standstill near junction 31. Cameras at junction 32, nearer Doncaster, showed the carriageway completely empty amid wet weather. National Highways tweeted at 8.55am, saying: “The #M1[2] is CLOSED northbound between J31 #Worksop[3] and J32 #Sheffield[4] due to a multi vehicle collision.

Emergency services are on scene.”

The motorway has now re-opened and traffic is thought to be back to normal.
