Police officers were on patrol when they asked the driver travelling on the motorway towards the A21 to come to a stop, at around 3.20am. The vehicle did not stop and crashed into the barrier on the clockwise carriageway at junction 5.

No injuries have been reported. A man has since been arrested on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified and driving whilst unfit through drugs.

Part of the M25 is still closed this morning while repairs are completed. Traffic is being diverted onto the A21 southbound towards Chipstead, in Surrey, and drivers are being asked to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys.

Drivers sitting in the queues said they saw fire crews, paramedics and recovery vehicles at around 6.30am.
