M4 near Bristol to remain closed overnight for pothole repairs

A stretch of the M4 near Bristol is set to be closed overnight as emergency repairs take place. The closure is in place heading eastbound around the Almondsbury Interchange[1]. National Highways said earlier today (December 9) that officials were working to repair potholes which have developed within the roadworks section between the slip roads at junction 20.

A diversion is in place which takes motorists southbound on the M5 to junction 16 before rejoining the M4. National Highways: South West said in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter[2] ): “The #M4 eastbound remains closed within J20 (#Almondsbury) for emergency carriageway repairs, which will be ongoing overnight. Traffic wishing to use the #M4 is required to head down the #M5 to J16, turn around and continue via the appropriate slip road.”

Elsewhere on the M4, a full closure is in place following a serious crash in Wiltshire. The motorway is expected to remain closed throughout this evening and into tomorrow morning (December 10). For all of the latest updates from the M4 near Bristol, follow our live blog here[5].
