M4 reopens near Swindon after serious crash

Two lanes have reopened on the M4 near Swindon following a serious crash. According to reports, the slip road for Swindon East was partially blocked. Google Maps showed delays and congestion in the area.

Traffic monitor Inrix reports: “M4 Westbound exit slip road partially blocked due to accident at J15 A346 Marlborough Road (Swindon East). Traffic is coping well.” National Highways said: “2 lanes (of 3) are closed on the #M4[1] westbound in #Wiltshire[2] between J14 (#HungerfordNewtown[3]) and J15 (#Swindon[4]) due to a multi-vehicle collision.

Emergency services are in attendance. There’s a 30 minute delay on approach with 3 miles of congestion.” They later added: “2 lanes (of 3) remain closed on the #M4[5] westbound in #Wiltshire[6] between J14 (#HungerfordNewtown[7]) and J15 (#Swindon[8]) due to a serious multi-vehicle collision.

Emergency services are still working at the scene.

There’s now an hour delay on approach with 4 miles of congestion.”

National Highways reported the two lanes had reopened shortly before 10pm, though around half-hour delays remain.
