M5 crash: Hour delays after three-vehicle collision in Somerset

There are delays of an hour on the M5 following a crash this morning (December 13). The motorway is closed heading northbound in Somerset[1]. The crash, which reportedly involved three vehicles, took place between junction 20 for Clevedon and junction 19 for Gordano at around 8.20am.

Emergency services remain at the scene and motorists are warned of long delays. According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, traffic is backed up to junction 21 for Weston-super-Mare. Drivers have been told to plan ahead of their journeys while the closure remains in place.

National Highways: South West said in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) at 9.07am: “The #M5 is CLOSED northbound between J20 #Clevedon & J19 #EastoninGordano #Bristol due to a collision. Emergency services are in attendance. “Long delays on approach currently adding at least 60 minutes to journey times.

Please plan ahead #Somerset.” Inrix says: “M5 Northbound blocked, stationary traffic due to recovery work and accident, three cars involved from J20 B3133 Ettlingen Way (Clevedon) to J19 A369 Martcombe Road (Portishead). Congestion to J21 (Weston-super-mare).

“Cameras show the road is now blocked whilst emergency services deal with a three vehicle collision.”
