M6 closed northbound after multi-vehicle crash sees air ambulance land

The M6 is closed northbound this morning after a crash at the Thelwall Viaduct. Both sides of the motorway were closed while the air ambulance landed before rushing a casualty to hospital. Police say the casualty had suffered serious chest injuries, to hospital.

A police spokesperson added a number of other casualties had been taken to hospital following the crash between a white Ford Zetec and a Ford Kuga around 7.48am today (December 11). A statement from Cheshire Police reads: “The M6 northbound is currently closed in Warrington[1] following a serious collision. “At 7.48am on Monday, December 11, police were called to reports of a multi-vehicle collision on the M6 northbound, at Thelwall Viaduct.

“Officers attended the scene and found the collision involved two HGVs, a white Ford Zetec and a white Ford Kuga. “Fire and ambulance were called to the scene and the road was closed in both directions to allow air ambulance to land. “One person has sustained a serious chest injury as a result of the collision, they have been taken to hospital via air ambulance.

A number of other casualties have been taken to hospital by paramedics.”

The southbound carriageway reopened at around 9.10am, but the northbound carriageway remains closed at this time.
