Man, 27, arrested on suspicion of murder after Terry Street house fire
A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after Anthony Ibbitson died following a house fire in Terry Street. Anthony, 54, suffered life threatening injuries as a result of the fire on November 29. The fire was reported at 8.40pm and emergency services worked to extinguish the fire and rescue Anthony who was taken to hospital.
He remained in hospital for two days following the fire. Tragically, despite the efforts of medical professionals he later died on Friday 1 December. Leading the investigation is Detective Chief Inspector Amy Keane-Christie from the Major Crime Team.
She said: “We immediately launched a murder investigation[1], and over the course of the last two weeks, a team of detectives have worked around the clock conducting extensive lines of enquiry into Anthony’s death. “As part of this, one man has now been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death. He remains in our custody whilst enquiries continue.
“Anthony’s family continue to be supported by specially trained officers at this time, and we would continue to appeal to members of the public to come forward with any information that may assist with our continuing investigation.”
