Man, 87, charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving

It follows a crash last summer which saw a motorbike rider taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries. In a statement at the time, Cheshire Police said that at around 5.55pm on July 28, 2022, officers were called to reports of a collision on the A556 Chester Road near to the Windmill pub in Tabley. After attending the scene, officers found the incident involved a red MG car and a black Honda motorcycle.

“The rider of the motorbike, a 39-year-old man from Moulton, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital,” a force spokesman said. “The driver of the car was uninjured. “The road was closed while officers dealt with the incident.

It reopened shortly after 8pm.” A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service also, at the time, said: “We received a number of calls at around 5.49pm about a road traffic collision. “We sent an ambulance to the scene and treated a male in his 30s with serious injuries, who was then taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital.”

According to court lists, George Green has now been charged in connection with the incident. The 87-year-old, of Hatton Lane in Hatton, is due to face a charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The particulars of the charge allege that on July 28 in Tabley, he caused serious injury by driving a mechanically propelled vehicle, namely an MG, dangerously on the A556 Chester Road.

He is due to make a first appearance at Crewe Magistrates’ Court in relation to the charge tomorrow, Friday.
