Man arrested after ’emergency worker assaulted’ following M62 collision

A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving over the limit and assaulting an emergency worker following an incident on the M62[1]. Emergency services were called shortly before 8pm on Thursday night after reports of a two-vehicle collision between the Howden and North Cave junctions, with witnesses reporting that the incident involved a van and a car. The motorway was subsequently closed westbound.

When a driver was removed from one of the vehicles, it is alleged that he caused an injury to a firefighter’s face in an “altercation”. In an update on its website, a spokesperson for the Humberside Fire and Rescue Service[2] wrote: “Two vehicle RTC – no persons trapped. One adult male removed from vehicle by police and fire service.

Male caused injury to firefighters face during altercation. Vehicles stabilised using chocks and blocks. Incident left with police.”

A police spokesperson confirmed that a 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene. He has now been released under investigation. The spokesperson for Humberside Police[3] said: “Officers attended the M62 near to Howden shortly before 8pm yesterday, Thursday 21 December, following reports of a collision involving two vehicles.

“A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst over the prescribed limit of drink or drugs and assaulting an emergency services worker.

He has been released under investigation whilst our enquiries continue.”
