Man arrested after Mercedes crashes into Ferensway lamp post
A man was arrested after a Mercedes crashed into a lamp post in Hull city centre. Police and firefighters and paramedics attended the scene, with a photograph showing the car rammed against the lamp post outside Britannia House in Ferensway, at the crossroads with Spring Bank, Beverley Road[1], and Freetown Way. The crash happened at about 5.10pm and the driver was taken into police custody on suspicion of drink driving.
A passenger was treated at the scene by paramedics but his injuries were not believed to be serious. A spokesperson for Humberside Police[2] told Hull Live: "We were called at around 5.10pm on Sunday 10 December to reports that a car has been in collision with a lamppost at the junction of Beverley Road and Ferensway in Hull. "Officers attended and the driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of driving when over the prescribed limit[3].
The road was closed whilst the lamppost was made safe, and the vehicle was recovered later that night. "If anyone has any information in relation to this incident, please contact us on our non-emergency number 101, quoting log 423 of 10 December." Humberside Fire and Rescue said in its log of the incident: "Single vehicle road traffic collision involving car into lamppost.
Crews made vehicle safe. Adult male driver in custody of Police. "Adult male passenger left in care of paramedics.." A photograph of the incident was shared on Hull Live's Traffic & Travel[4] Facebook page.
The lamp post was tilted at an angle and the front of the Mercedes appeared to be badly damaged from the impact.
