Man released after crash leaves boy in life-threatening condition

The 14-year-old boy was cycling along Knighton Heath Road in East Howe when he was involved in a crash with a silver Volvo on December 18 at around 7.30pm. The driver reportedly fled the scene and the boy was rushed to Southampton General Hospital with "very serious" injuries. South Western Ambulance Service also sent two air ambulances, two double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer and a doctor to the scene.

A 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving offences but has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue. There is currently no update on the boy's condition. Police sergeant Mike Gatfield, of the roads policing tea, previously said that an investigation was on-going to establish the full circumstances of the collision.

"I am appealing to any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please get in touch. "I would also like to hear from any motorists who were travelling in the area and may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage."
