Massachusetts man accused of slamming into New Hampshire police cruiser on Interstate 93
A Massachusetts man is accused of slamming into a New Hampshire police cruiser Saturday night, as the trooper was responding to multiple crashes on Interstate 93 North in Canterbury, according to New Hampshire State Police. The state trooper was outside of the cruiser when it was hit around 11:19 p.m. on Saturday, officials said. The cruiser was hit by Melvin Ruiz Chaperon, 38, of Chelsea, officials said.
The trooper, who was roadside with another car at the time of the crash, did not suffer any injuries, though Ruiz Chaperon was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, police said. He was charged with operating without a valid license and scheduled to appear at Concord District Court, police said. Police were aided by the Canterbury Fire Department, New Hampshire Department of Transportation, New England Truck Center-Concord and Matt Brown's Truck Repair, according to officials.
The cruiser crash, multiple other crashes and the icy road conditions shut down I-93 North in Canterbury for about an hour and a half.
