Moment heavy snow hits Leeds on Sunday as Met Office warns ‘more coming tonight’

Heavy snow came down hard on Leeds on Sunday – and more could be on the way any time now according to the Met Office. This dramatic (well, for snowfall) video of heavy flurries of flakes landing in north Leeds in the early hours of Sunday morning shows the extent of the white stuff we’ve had snowing down on parts of Leeds today. And the Met Office says that Sunday evening will see more snow showers imminently.

Heavy snow started falling at about 1am on Sunday and continued until around 3am, with heavy flakes landing and settling in areas including Cookridge – where this was filmed – and Adel, Horsforth, Alwoodley and other areas of the north of the city, especially high ground around Leeds Bradford Airport.

And on Sunday evening the Met Office is warning more is on the way, with locals in Birstall reporting that snow has begun to fall right now. The Met Office is warning of a more than 50% chance of snow between 5pm and 6pm and between 9pm and 11pm on Sunday evening. Roads in several parts of Leeds have already become treacherous and drivers are being urged to stay home and avoid unnecessary journeys.

The temperature is also a freezing -1C at the moment and is predicted to plunge to -3C overnight.

A yellow weather warning for ice remains in place for Leeds until midday on Sunday.
