Motorcyclist killed in crash with van on south Las Vegas valley road

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Authorities say a motorcycle rider was killed in a crash with a van early Monday morning, the fifth traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas valley between Sunday and Monday. The crash was reported around 12:50 a.m. at Dean Martin Drive and Ponderosa Way, just south of Russell Road, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said in a statement. Investigators believe a 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van was heading north on Dean Martin, while a 2019 Ducati Scrambler motorcycle was heading south.

The van turned left at the intersection at Ponderosa and crossed into the path of the motorcycle, police say. The motorcyclist, identified as a 26-year-old man, crashed into the front of the van and was ejected from the bike. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver of the van remained on scene and did not show any signs of impairment, according to LVMPD. This is the fifth traffic-related fatality reported on valley roads in 12 hours. The first crash, at Charleston and Nellis boulevards, resulted in two fatalities Sunday afternoon[1].

Later Sunday evening, a pedestrian was struck and killed[2] on Lamb Boulevard near Judson Avenue.

Police said they suspect DUI was a factor and arrested the driver involved.

On Monday morning, one person was killed and another was injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash on I-11[3] at Horizon Road in Henderson.
