Motorway closed overnight due to flooding

Burnley Road (Image: Street View) A road has been closed overnight by police due to flooding. Burnley[1] Road in Hapton has been closed and the motorway has been blocked off a the A56 junction for Ramsbottom to Manchester Road.

There was a full closure in place between junction 1 of the M66 Northbound. Police were called to the scene at around midnight and stated that the road would be closed for a while. A spokesperson for the police said: “We’re currently at the scene of a road closure on Burnley Road in Hapton.

The road closure runs from the junction with Manchester Road and the junction for the A56. “The road is closed due to flooding and we anticipate this will be closed for some time. “We’ll provide an update once cleared and thank you in advance for your patience.”

At around 5.30am today (December 11), North West Motorway Police said: “With reference to the closure on M66 to A56, the flooding has subsided now and the road is being reopen.”
