Multiple crashes cause morning rush hour traffic disruption

Commuters in the central belt are experiencing travel disruption following a crash and a vehicle breakdown on two motorways. Lane three of the M77 is currently blocked southbound at junction four near Newton Mearns following a broken-down car. Those approaching the area are urged to take care.

Meanwhile, a collision has closed the B7078 Carlisle Road between junction nine on the M74 and the roundabout for junction ten following a crash. “Emergency services are at the scene,” Police Scotland said. “We would urge drivers to avoid the area and not to seek to use Junction 9 southbound due to the road closures.”

The B7078 Carlisle Road is currently closed between the J9 off ramp for the M74 and the roundabout for J10, due to a crash.

Traffic Scotland said vehicles wishing to leave the M74 can do so at Junction 11. South Lanarkshire is among several regions in Scotland to be hit with a yellow weather warning for rain.

The Met Office alert came into force at 12 on Thursday morning and will remain in place until 6pm.

Motorists are urged to take care amid spray and flooding that could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
